What is Shot Blasting?

Shot Blasting is a process used to remove contaminants, debris, rust and previous coatings from a large surface area such as security gates, steel works, pipes, tanks, vehicles, and anything metal. It has also been used as a tool by many famous architects on masonry for giving that perfect finish to an innovative design. Not only does it render a rough surface smooth, used with the right skill it can create a pattern, make a smooth surface rough, or completely transform an object much the same way Rodin did as he sculpted the famous “kiss”.

Our workforce are highly trained super safe individuals that work expertly as a dedicated team ensuring their work is second to none, and our customers are always more than satisfied with the shot blasting finish. Our service is such that recently we have expanded and out site after relocation now includes a 14,000sq foot workshop, a well-equipped blast room and a large storage yard. We are quickly becoming the leader not only in powder coatings but in abrasive blasting throughout the whole of London and Kent.

Now for the Science bit!

The art of blast cleaning using an abrasive generally uses three fundamental elements, a container, cupboard or if the company is successful and professional a blast room like ours, an appliance to drive the grit, sand, shot or other abrasive, and nozzles to direct the blast onto the right area. When trained, technicians can blast clean anything from a one penny piece to a boat the size of the Titanic.

Pressure is then produced; using air, water or wheels, the dry method utilises compressed air to force a blast of abrasive towards the product whilst wheels use a rotating system and water, obviously uses water! ( and sometimes compressed air!)

Materials typically fall into a few categories, sand, slag, metal, shot, synthetic materials, or grit depending on the treatment required and the desired finish. Each one has its own distinctive advantages, and sometimes more than one is used on one particular project as when skilled shot blasters execute the work, they will automatically understand which substance will give the precise polish.

Safety First!

Although the results are immaculate when using Protect Coatings, and our customers can vouch for us, we understand the risks involved. A lot of dust can be created as we shot blast debris and rust, meaning that we are all well versed in the current health and safety laws and consider this to be paramount to our service.

We think you’ll agree that once you use our shot blasting specialist service in Kent, you’ll join our legion of happy clients, and add us to your address book as we’re a company you’ll never want to live without.
